The GI-MAP™ test stands for Gastrointestinal Microbial Assay Plus. This test is designed to provide a comprehensive analysis of the gastrointestinal microbiome, identifying and quantifying various microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites, as well as assessing digestive and immune health markers. It’s considered a "gold standard" in microbiome testing because of its advanced, DNA-based technology, which offers highly accurate and detailed insights into the gut environment.

Our partnering laboratory Diagnostic Solutions maintains comprehensive internal quality control programs in all areas of testing.

The test result includes detailed analysis of your hormonal health markers. However, interpretations and personalized recommendations are not included. For guidance on understanding your results, and how to implement the findings, we recommend scheduling a Functional Testing | Result Review consultation.

The standard turnaround time for this test is 14-21 business days.

Clients must follow their usual diet prior to collecting a stool specimen. The stool specimen must be collected in the morning, where possible or the first bowel movement of the day. If you are currently taking antibiotics, only proceed with this collection two weeks after you have completed the course of probiotic therapy. Natural laxatives can be used if constipation is a problem. This includes herbal and nutritional supplements. Do not use pharmaceutical laxatives as these medications can alter test results.

The DUTCH Test covers all postage and handling fees, including the delivery of the test kit and return to the laboratory. Note that interpretation and implementation of the results requires a Functional Testing | Result Review consultation, where you’ll receive a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique health needs.

Unlock the Power of Your Gut Health with the GI-MAP™ Test

Discover the root cause of chronic symptoms and reclaim your well-being with this advanced, personalized stool test.

01

Supports Hormone and Brain Health by Addressing the Gut-Body Connection

The GI-MAP™ is one of the few tests that measures beta-glucuronidase, an enzyme affecting estrogen detoxification. High levels of this enzyme may contribute to hormone imbalances, impacting conditions like PMS, endometriosis, or menopausal symptoms. Additionally, by targeting gut health, this test indirectly supports mental wellness—given the well-established link between the gut and brain health—providing a holistic approach to treating issues like anxiety, depression, or brain fog that can be rooted in gut dysfunction.
02

Focuses on Your Long-Term Health, Not Just Immediate Symptoms

The GI-MAP™ goes beyond spotting infections by testing for markers related to gut inflammation, immune function, and digestive efficiency. For example, it measures calprotectin, a marker of inflammation in the gut lining, and zonulin, an indicator of “leaky gut.” These markers provide early warnings about gut dysfunction, empowering you and your healthcare provider to take proactive steps for long-term health rather than just treating immediate symptoms.
03

Advanced Detection Beyond Common Pathogens

Unlike a standard stool test, which may only catch acute infections, the GI-MAP™ screens for a broader array of gut microbes, including both beneficial and harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. This means it can identify imbalances that may be contributing to chronic symptoms like bloating, constipation, or fatigue—even if they’re not caused by an active infection. This deeper insight helps you and your practitioner address issues before they escalate into more severe health conditions.
